Maybe it looks more like the world standing still, grinding to a halt because all the bodies within it are exhausted—because care has to be prioritized before it's too late. Those of us for whom illness is an everyday reality have long known about its revolutionary potency. We know that a revolution can look like one body lying horizontal in a bed, unable to go to work. We know that it can be represented as hundreds of thousands of bodies in bed, organizing a rent strike, separating the value of life from capitalist productivity. […] We know that it can be represented as the labors of support and care expanding exponentially, all of us reaching out to all the people we know, everyone we know lending a hand to theirs. Through Inhabiting the co_llapse, artist Irene Pe explores, from the chronically ill experience, ideas around acceleration and pause as cause and result, respectively, of bodies in collapse within neoliberal capitalism that generates a normative and homogenizing imaginary.
Starting on one hand from images of social justice, workers and citizen struggle through strike actions and demonstrations as well as the recording of people hospitalized – photographs from the collection of the Tobella Archive in Terrassa -, and on the other hand images from her personal archive that documents moments of flare-ups and crises of her own chronically ill body with chronic pain, Irene Pe creates a set of works that present the forced 'pause' of bodies that fall ill as a state of permanent struggle and resistance and potential disruption.
Following the work she has been carrying out in recent years, that uses the documentary archive - which is sometimes hybridized with imaginative and speculative feminist and queer science fiction elements, the artist presents at the Festival Panoràmic 2025 a proposal for a possible survival imaginary that is in itself a fight against neoliberal violence and all its children – especially ableism*.
Inhabiting the co_llapse shows the life of the ill. Moments of fragility and suffering that at the same time open the potential of the body to become something else, a mutant being perhaps, that stubbornly insists on continuing to exist and resist.
*Set of violence and discrimination against disabled, sick and/or neurodivergent people.

“Ahora puede ser un buen momento para repensar qué apariencia podría tener una revolución. Quizá no se parece a una marcha en las calles de cuerpos capacitados y enojados. Quizá se parece más al mundo quieto, parándose porque todos los cuerpos dentro de él están exhaustos –porque el cuidado tiene que ser priorizado antes de que sea muy tarde. Aquellxs de nosotrxs para quienes la enfermedad es una realidad de todos los días, conocemos desde hace mucho sobre su potencia revolucionaria. Sabemos que una revolución puede tener la apariencia de un cuerpo horizontal en una cama, sin poder ir a trabajar. Sabemos que puede ser representada como cientos de miles de cuerpos en cama, organizando una huelga de alquileres, separando el valor de la vida de la productividad capitalista. […] sabemos que puede ser representada como los trabajos de apoyo y cuidado expandiéndose exponencialmente, Todxs nosotrxs tendiéndonos hacia toda la gente que conocemos, todxs los que conocemos echando una mano a lxs suyxs. […] –nos habíamos estado preguntando cuando esa comunidad notaría cuán revolucionario es el acto de cuidado comunal.”

A través de Habitar el co_lapso la artista Irene Pe explora, desde la experiencia enferma crónica, ideas en torno a la aceleración y la pausa como causa y resultado, respectivamente, de cuerpos en colapso dentro del capitalismo neoliberal y en oposición a la generación de un imaginario normativo y homogenizador.
Partiendo por una parte de imágenes de lucha social, obrera y ciudadana a través de acciones de huelga y manifestación así como de registros de personas hospitalizadas - procedentes del fondo del Archivo Tobella de Terrassa -, y por otro lado de las imágenes de su archivo personal que documenta los momentos de brotes y crisis del propio cuerpo enfermo y con dolor crónico, Irene Pe crea un conjunto de obras que presentan la ‘pausa’ forzosa de los cuerpos que enferman como estado de lucha y resistencia permanentes y potencialmente disrruptivas.
Siguiendo el trabajo que lleva realizando en los últimos años, utilizando el archivo documental en ocasiones hibridándolo con elementos de la imaginación y la ciencia ficción especulativa feminista y queer, presenta en el Festival Panoràmic 2025 una propuesta de posible imaginario de supervivencia enferma que es en sí mismo una forma lucha frente la violencia neoliberal y todos sus hijos – en especial el capacitismo*.
Habitar el co_lapso muestra la vida enferma. Μomentos de fragilidad y sufrimiento que a la vez abren el potencial del cuerpo para convertirse en algo otro, un ser mutante quizás, que terco insiste en seguir existiendo y oponiendo resistencia.
*Conjunto de violencias y discriminaciones hacia las personas discapacitadas, enfermas y/o neurodivergentes.
