My experience during and after confinement due to the covid-19 pandemic, included the birth of a new paradigm in my artistic practice. The confinement resulted in repeated debilitating anxiety attacks, insomnia and the worsening of my physical condition which would bring, in march of 2022, a diagnosis of a painful genetic chronic and degenerative disease.

In the mist of it all I had a similar experience as some of my colleagues who experienced a creative blockage. In my case though, I had a blockage to making art as I usually did, using mainly textile techniques and materials. Surprisingly, the drive to make work, as artmaking is a powerful tool for navigating the world and its mishaps, became stronger, but this time in the form of poetry writing, the return to photography and the exploration of sound.

It was partially thanks to the confinement that I became good friends with one of my neighbors who happens to be a musician who had a lot of knowledge about synthesizers. I have had an interest in sound an electronic music as well as in oral history and storytelling for a long time, and thus this became the perfect time to explore these tools. Furthermore, most of the interaction between my neighbor and I, as well as with several other friends happened through our mobile phones in the form of recorded messages and links to videos and music. At one point this all came together in a group of sound works, some made by me alone and others made in collaboration with writer Rosa Pérez Antón, artist Jesus Jeleton and my neighbor and musician Alex Robles.
